2018 PGA Championship Preview

2018 PGA Championship Preview

The 100th edition of the PGA Championship will take place at Bellerive Country Club in Missouri from Thursday and we are set for four exciting rounds as the world’s best golfers trade blows in search of the season’s last major.

The usual suspects are all widely expected to be in contention over the course of 72 holes but given how open majors have been recently, particularly in 2018, close to every player in the PGA Championship field has some claim on winning.

World number 1 Dustin Johnson is amidst another competitive season and has opened the $10 favourite in 2018 PGA Championship betting, ahead of Rory McIlroy ($13), reigning champion Justin Thomas ($15) and Aussie Jason Day ($21).

Below you can find our 2018 PGA Championship tips, including what we believe to be the best long shots!

Dustin Johnson ($10)

Along with several other big names, Johnson missed the cut at the British Open and will be keen to end the Grand Slam season with a big performance in Missouri.

Forgiving his showing in Britain, Johnson has finished in the top ten at five of his six most-recent tournaments and finished in a tie for third at the Bridgestone Invitational last week.

With wins in the Canadian Open and St. Jude Classic beside his name most notably this season, the thirty-four-year-old leads the way in low scoring average and if he puts it all together this weekend, would not look out of place winning his second career major.

Justin Thomas ($15)

Thomas was another player to miss the cut at the Open Championship but will carry winning form into his defence of the PGA Championship after an outstanding performance at the Bridgestone Invitational which saw him finish 15-under.

That was his third win on the tour this season but he will be eager to improve on his performance at the first three Majors of the season, at which he is yet to net a top-ten finish.

Thomas has the opportunity to become only the second player behind Brooks Koepka to win more than one Major since the beginning of 2016 and on recent form, he represents great value at current PGA Championship odds.

Webb Simpson ($67)

Webb Simpson has well and truly flown under the radar this season, but his performances at the Majors have been terrific and he is not without a hope at the PGA Championship, at long odds.

Simpson has finished 20th at The Masters, 10th at the US Open and 12th at the British Open; all situated around a strong win at the Players Championship in May.

His fairway-finding game should be well suited to the layout at Bellerive and with a place in the US Ryder Cup team potentially on the line, Simpson could be in for a big PGA Championship.

Si Woo Kim ($126)

Si Woo Kim is a player that is capable of a massive performance on his day and he looks over the odds at triple-figures in PGA Championship betting.

The twenty-three-year-old has fought his way back into the top 50 after finishing in a tie for 10th at the Bridgestone Invitational and has posted a number of other credible results in what has been a busy season.

Kim has been putting extremely well recently and if he can muster a performance similar to that which delivered a shock win at last year’s Players Championship, he could fight out the finish.
