Graceful Star has not been seen at the races since January, but she looks to be a filly with a decent amount of talent and has trialled well in the lead-up to this maiden race at Geelong today. The daughter of All American worked home well to finish fourth over 1000m at Moonee Valley on debut and placed at her two most-recent appearances, which included a Geelong sprint. She’s drawn and weighted well and on exposed form, has an edge over her rivals.
Angiolini is yet to show her best form this time, but she looks ready to peak third-up at Newcastle today and should prove difficult to hold out. The daughter of All Too Hard has only made four competitive appearances at the races to date but she has typically run into tough company than she finds this afternoon. From barrier 10, jockey Quayde Krogh can take the filly to a position just behind the pace before calling on her turn of foot.
Oakfield Costa has been racing extremely well this time and will take a power of beating at Mackay today. The son of Encosta De Lago has in fact posted three wins and a place through his six starts this time in and ran a smart second behind Le Chiffre at Mackay two starts back, before delivering a decent field a four-length defeat at this track and distance last time. The slight rise in weights shouldn’t be an issue and he has the speed to overcome the outside draw.
Pacific Tycoon will carry winning form into the last at Albury this afternoon and is rock-hard fit. The Written Tycoon gelding took a few runs to tighten up upon resuming in late March but has been on fire recently; hitting the line well for second on heavy going at Corowa two runs back before a dominant win at this track and distance a fortnight ago. He’s drawn to find a nice position close to the pace and will be tough to beat.
