Quality stayer Lycurgus faces a drop back in class into the first race at Sandown today and will be extremely difficult to beat over a mile and a half. The son of Star Witness flew home from the tail of the field to finish midfield in talent rich 2000m race at Caulfield and will return to his pet trip for the first time today. Daniel Moor will be able to take a slightly closer position from the ideal barrier 4 and Lycurgus will look to finish over the top of his rivals.

Chris Waller-trained stayer Hoof Hustler has returned to racing in excellent condition this time in and finds himself in another very winnable race this afternoon at Warwick Farm. Hoof Hustler clearly needed the run and a longer trip when he finished seventh over a mile first-up, but he’s since run third over 2000m at Kembla Grange and won over a mile and a half on the Randwick-Kensington course. He faces only a small field this afternoon and jockey Kerrin McEvoy will have plenty of options from the rails draw.

Gresham will resume from a freshen-up this afternoon and should find himself right in the finish of Race 5 at Warwick Farm. The son of Sebring worked to the line well to finish second over 1400m at Newcastle first-up and took plenty of improvement into a smart win over a mile at Gosford last time out. The wide draw is a slight concern, but a mile is ideal again and he’ll enjoy a slight drop in the weights from his last-start win.

Schubert is ready to peak third-up at Warwick Farm this afternoon and is over the odds and his current each-way quote. The Lonhro gelding has been a model of consistency through his nine career starts to date and has missed a placing only once. Having scored an easy first-up win over this trip at Hawkesbury, Schubert ran a credible third upon returning to city company last time and with appropriate luck in transit, can be right in the finish of this race.
