The son of Fastnet Rock will need to show some early speed to take a position on pace from a wide draw today, but he is rock-hard fit and has a class edge over many of his rivals here. He will be tough to run down.
Smart galloper Lagerfeld was only fair to the line at Warrnambool last time out, but drops back in class into this afternoon’s appearance at Mildura and he is definitely the horse to beat. The Denman gelding had not finished worse than second leading into his last-start performance and he should be able to navigate to a decent position in transit behind the early pace. Linda Meech has a great record for Ciaron Maher and they can extend that run through this race.
Boca Grande will carry winning form into Race 8 at Muswellbrook today and with natural improvement, will be extremely difficult to beat. The Sebring gelding took up the running over this course at distance first-up and kicked well to finish a head winner. Chad Lever can employ similar tactics from barrier 4 and he can end the card on a winning note.

The Darren Weir-trained Misty Sea has been racing fairly without returning to winning form this time, but looks to be over the odds at his current price at Mildura this afternoon. The Sebring gelding was caught behind a wall of horses at Donald last time out, but still hit the line well to finish a credible fifth. With Dean Yendall in the saddle, he’s a live chance in what looks an open race.
