Spright ($13) surged home on the line to win the 2018 Star Kingdom Stakes (1200m) at Rosehill Gardens this afternoon.
Jumping from the gates well, regular hoop Jay Ford elected to settle the mare in the tail of the field as Dothraki ($2.50), Isorich ($17), Oxford Poet ($8) and Neita ($6.50) set a fast tempo leading into the opening turn.
Spright made plenty of good ground and showed an electric turn of foot to swoop into the lead with less than 200m to the finish to take the win on the line from Dothraki ($7.50) and Bolero King ($10).
Jockey Jay Ford was delighted with the performance the horse showed today.
“She’s a really good mare when she’s right and likes to let loose when she can,” said Ford.
“She fresh up and relaxed and enjoyed a nice tempo. Once she saw daylight she let down strongly.”
Spright’s connections are keeping their options open with the 2018 TJ Smith Stakes an option for today’s winner.
