Luvaluva ($4.80) stormed home to a thrilling win in the Group 3 Kembla Grange Classic (1600m) at Kembla Grange this afternoon.
Jumping from the gates well Madylion ($41), Wedgie ($11) and Pandemonium ($4) set a high tempo in the early stages of the race.
Jockey Kerrin McEvoy was content on to settle into the midfield and was greeted with an electric turn of foot as the filly stormed home to claim a win on the line from race favourite Torvill ($3.40) and Wedgie.
Trainer John Sargent was impressed with the result.
“When they are good they are good and when she hit the line great, that was above expectations it was great” he said.
Sargent was confident about Luvaluva’s chances in the Australian Oaks.
“She’s one of those horses that‘s more like a mare now and onwards and upwards let’s hope we keep going.”
Jockey Kerrin McEvoy was happy with the result and the run.
“It looked a nice race for her today. I was confident at the 150 we would finish well. She stayed past a mile and she’ll go well in the Oaks.”
Luvaluva has firmed into Australian Oaks odds of $7 following the 2018 Kembla Grange Classic.
