Kementari Too Good in 2018 Randwick Guineas

Kementari has justified his clear favouritism with a dominant win in the Group 1 Randwick Guineas (1600m) at Royal Randwick this afternoon.

The writing was on the wall for Kementari’s Randwick Guineas rivals after the colt produced dominant performances and wins in both the Group 3 Eskimo Prince Stakes (1200m) and Group 2 Hobartville Stakes (1400m) and he subsequently left a $2.35 favourite in our market this afternoon.

Taking a position midfield after jumping well, Kementari allowed the likes of Condor, Trapeze Artist and Siege Of Quebec to dictate early terms, and he enjoyed a carefree run in transit.

Glyn Schofield allowed the horse plenty of time to balance in the straight before going for the whip and the veteran hoop was rewarded for the decision when the Lonhro colt produced a blistering turn of foot; savaging the line for an easy win over Pierata and Trapeze Artist.

Trainer James Cummings was thrilled with Kementari’s performance and win in the Randwick Guineas and the horse will now be set for an appearance in the Group 1 Doncaster Mile (1600m).

“He’s a serious horse,” Cummings said after the race.

“We’ve had him tuned up to perfection today in a serious race. The class horses have just about finished in the first three and the two picks of the yard fought it out and finished 1-2.

“Kementari is a mouth-watering colt, he’s silky smooth and he’s put them away in a Randwick Guineas in the style of a really high-class colt.

“He did it with so much class in the Hobartville a fortnight ago, which has stood the test of time as a top tiered horses race. He came here at set weights and my heart was just pumping before the barrier opened because I just did  not see how they would beat him today.

“The last thing I said to Glyn Schofield before I threw him on was just do not go too soon on this horse, and he didn’t just count to five, he counted to ten and let him go. When Ace High started zooming up around them on the outside, Kementari put in the big bounds.

“This is the sort of rare horse that Sheikh Mohammad is in horse racing for and I’m sure that with his runners in Group 1s and 2s around the world, horses like Kementari are going to get him excited.”

Kementari is the outright $4.80 favourite in our 2018 Doncaster Mile betting market following this afternoon’s slick performance and win.
