Hiyaam ($9) has produced an outstanding ride to win the 2018 Vinery Stud Stakes (2000m) at Rosehill Gardens this afternoon.
Jumping from the gates well, jockey Michael Dee elected to move his ride to the front in the early stages from Danzdanzdance ($12), Alizee ($7.50) and Rimraam ($16).
Hiyaam lead from barrier to box and was able to dictate the tempo early in the race.
Turning into the straight Hiyaam kicked on with a terrific turn of foot to dominate the race, winning by three lengths from Unforgotten ($3.70) and Aloisia ($5).
Jockey Michael Dee was more than happy with the result and the filly’s performance that helped her capture her maiden Group 1 win.
“Credit to the filly, last prep I was riding her too pretty. Today there was no speed in the race so from the one pole we just elected to roll forward and dictate terms, she was too good in the end,” he said.
Dee was more than happy to get another Group One win.
“This is right up there, it’s my third Group 1 now but that my favourite one winning for my old boss Mick Price. He’s given me a lot of support since I came over here.”
Trainer Luke Wilkinson from the Mick Price Stable was elated with the result.
“This is a big pick-up on the way to the Oaks and a cherry on top. A fantastic front-running ride and we’ll be back in a couple of weeks for the Oaks.”
Hiyaam is at odd of $9 in our early market for the Australian Oaks.
