Talented import Endless Drama has broken through for his first win in Australia following a tough performance in this afternoon’s Group 2 Apollo Stakes (1400m) at Royal Randwick.
Punters rallied around Endless Drama in the days leading up to the Apollo Stakes and he was sent off the $3.90 favourite and clear market mover as a result.
Jumping from the gates well, jockey Tye Angland found an ideal position in transit just behind early leaders Global Glamour, Addictive Nature and Stampede, who flew the barriers and injected plenty of early speed into the race.
Kept in clear running three-wide the trip, Angland was rewarded for the decision when the Lope De Vega entire was offered clear running in the straight and immediately put himself in the race.
Locked in a fierce sprint battle with Global Glamour, the six-year-old finally managed to wear down the multiple Group 1 winner in the final strides of the race and record his first win in his sixth start for Chris Waller.
Global Glamour failed to fire in either of the Magic Millions Fillies & Mares (1300m) or Group 2 Expressway Stakes leading into this race, but her hard-fought second in the Apollo Stakes suggests that she is a live chance for a race like the Group 1 Coolmore Classic (1500m) on March 17th.
Noted miler Comin’ Through produced a smart turn of foot in the final straight to run on for third and he will only improve for the experience and stepping up in trip second-up.
Prized Icon continued his smart run of form with a well-run fourth, having also run on from the tail of the field. A race like the Group 1 The BMW (2400m) looks an ideal target for the multiple Group 1 winner this season.
