2018 Hobartville Stakes: Plenty of Value in Betting

The Group 1 Randwick Guineas (1600m) is the major campaign target for several horses this season and Saturday’s Group 2 Hobartville Stakes (1400m) at Rosehill Gardens has subsequently drawn an outstanding field of three-year-olds. The Hobartville Stakes is the final stop on the traditional path towards the Randwick Guineas each autumn and several previous winners at the highest level will be joined by some of the country’s best three-year-olds still seeking a maiden Group 1 crown in the Hobartville. Trapeze Artist flew home to win the Group 1 Golden Rose (1400m) at long odds on spring and has so-far attracted the most attention in our Hobartville Stakes market; firming onto the second line at $3.80 odds after opening at a $4.20 quote. Trapeze Artist has been a strong and consistent performer for Gerald Ryan throughout his entire racing career so far and will take his position in the Hobartville Stakes with a smart record of four wins and a placing, from only ten starts. The Snitzel colt mustered a smart turn of foot to comfortably win the Group 2 Expressway Stakes (1200m) first-up on February 3rd and will only improve second-up in this race and stepping back into three-year-old company. Kementari was also an easy first-up winner and is a deserving occupant of the top line of Hobartville Stakes betting at a current price of $2.35. The Godolphin colt was a strong and consistent performer throughout 2017 and finished a close second behind Mighty Boss in the Group 1 Caulfield Guineas (1600m) most notably in spring. Kementari was sent off a $3.30 shot in the Group 3 Eskimo Prince Stakes (1200m) first-up a fortnight ago, but absolutely destroyed his rivals and jogged over the line to win by more than three lengths. The step up in distance is ideal for the son of Lonhro and Glyn Schofield retains the ride for the Hobartville Stakes. Only two other runners, D’Argento ($6.50) and Pierata ($7) are currently available at Hobartville Stakes odds of less-than $10, but there is also a case to be made for several horses at double-figure odds. D’Argento has only made three appearances at the races, but he is also yet to taste anything but success and was last seen winning the Nelune Foundation BM76 (1300m) with ease first-up on January 20th. Pierata has been in outstanding form recently and was last seen taking the $1.2 million winner’s cheque in the Magic Millions 3YO Guineas (1400m) on the Gold Coast on January 13th. The Pierro colt has posted four wins and two minors through only eight career starts and represents terrific value at each-way odds in the Hobartville Stakes. Two-time Group 1 champion Ace High ($26) was fair to the line when fifth in the Expressway Stakes and will only improve off the run and in stepping out in distance. Queensland raider Capital Gain will resume in the Hobartville Stakes and is probably over the odds at his current $34 quote. The son of Ad Valorem capped his two-year-old campaign with an impressive win in the Group 1 JJ Atkins (1600m) but failed to fire through two summer starts. He has trialled well leading into this race and can work his way into the money at huge odds.
