2018 Apollo Stakes Betting Update

The lack of equine superstar Winx in the field for Saturday’s Group 2 Apollo Stakes (1400m) at Randwick has led to an open race from a betting perspective.

Our final Apollo Stakes betting markets has only been open for a couple of ours, but already we’ve taken plenty of bets on multiple Group 1 champion Global Glamour, who has firmed into $6 odds after opening at $6.50.

Global Glamour was a standout for Gai Waterhouse and Adrian Bott throughout the 2016 Spring Carnival; winning both the Group 1 Flight Stakes (1600m) and Group 1 Thousand Guineas (1600m) most notably.

The daughter of Star Witness has steadily built to the task this time in and is ready to peak third-up after finishing sixth in the Magic Millions Fillies & Mares (1300m) first-up and fourth in the Group 2 Expressway Stakes (1200m) a fortnight ago.

The top of the Apollo Stakes betting market is crowded and there is a case to be made for all of Addictive Nature ($3.70), Comin’ Through ($4.80), Prized Icon ($5) and Endless Drama ($5.50).

Addictive Nature enjoyed a meteoric rise to prominence during the recent Spring Carnival and won the Group 3 Ming Dynasty Quality (1400m) at only his third career start before ending his campaign third in the Group 2 Stan Fox Stakes (1500m).

The son of Savabeel was blocked in the run, but resumed for a smart third in the Expressway Stakes a fortnight ago and with natural improvement, will be tough to beat in the Apollo Stakes.

Comin’ Through is a multiple winner amongst black type company and has won two of his three first-up runs to date.

The half-brother to champion galloper Criterion resumed for a tough win in the Group 3 Bill Ritchie Handicap over this course and distance last time in and has trialled fairly leading into Saturday’s feature race.

Prized Icon is known for his impressive staying performances, but he flies early in his campaigns and is capable of another win in the Apollo Stakes.

A two-time Group 1 champion, Prized Icon flew home to finish second in the Listed Carrington Stakes (1400m) first-up, having jumped at a $31 quote. The More Than Ready entire is as tough as they come and has plenty of option from the rails draw.

Endless Drama is potentially the dark horse in this Apollo Stakes field and is worth consideration at his currently quote.

Running less-than a length second to Gleneagles in the Group 1 Irish 2000 Guineas (1609m) in 2015, the Lope De Vega entire has been fair during his time with Chris Waller, but resumed for a credible third in the Carrington Stakes and will be far better second-up.

Carrington Stakes winner Lanciato ($9) is seeking a third-consecutive win in the Carrington Stakes, but is so-far forgotten in betting.
