Big Bash Preview: January 8th – 10th

Hobart Hurricanes vs Sydney Sixers – Monday January 8th

After two consecutive wins, the Hurricanes are finding their feet this season in the BBL.

The story for the Hurricanes has been the form of D’Arcy Short. Short slammed a career-best 97 against the Strikers, to back up his 96 against the Thunder. Short is hitting the ball as well as anyone in the competition and with Ben McDermott in form, the Hurricanes can go deep in the BBL.

Jofra Archer has been the hero for the Hurricanes with the ball, in what is the young West Indian’s first season in the BBL. Archer has eight wickets in four games, at an economy rate of six.

The Sixers on the other hand have this season and are yet to post their first win. Steve O’Keefe has been key to the Sydney team’s campaign in seasons gone by, but he is out for the season with a leg injury.

The Hurricanes will be too strong for the Sixers with both bat and ball. Expect the Hurricanes to make it three wins in a row.

Perth Scorchers vs Melbourne Renegades – Monday January 8th

The Scorchers head back to the comforts of home ready for a Renegades side that will want revenge. The Scorchers put the Renegades to the sword in Melbourne, and the Melbourne side will be eager to return the favour.

The Renegades absolutely dominated in their victory over the Sixers. Cameron White and Aaron Finch found the runs, while Brad Hogg will be keen to remind the Scorchers what they are missing with a good performance here.

The Scorchers will be feeling confident at home. Despite the injuries, Perth continue to produce local talent for a strong roster. Tom David will be looking to build his career after a good debut against the Sixers.

If Michael Klinger can produce the runs at the top of the batting order, then the Scorchers will be hard to stop. The Scorchers will be too good at home for the Renegades.

Adelaide Strikers vs Melbourne Stars – Tuesday January 9th

We are set for an exciting game when the league-leading Adelaide Strikers host the desperate Melbourne Star on Tuesday night.

On paper the Melbourne Stars are the Manchester United of the BBL. Kevin Pietersen leads a line-up packed with big name players. Glenn Maxwell will be looking to prove a point to Australian selectors. Overlooked for the ODI team, Maxwell will be hungry for runs against the Strikers.

The Strikers have added the experience of Peter Siddle to their line-up this season. Siddle will be key to restricting the Stars batsmen. Rashid Khan has been another standout performer for the Strikers. In his first BBL campaign, Khan has the second-best economy rate in the BBL.

The Stars have it all to play for. A win for the Stars will get them off the bottom of the BBL ladder, but it is tough to see that materialising here.

Brisbane Heat vs Hobart Hurricanes – Wednesday January 10th

One of the standout games of the week is set to take place when the Heat host the Hurricanes in Brisbane on Saturday.

The Heat will be looking for one more innings from superstar Chris Lynn. Lynn destroyed the Scorchers at the Gabba hitting his 100th BBL six. With national duty around the corner for Lynn, the Heat will be looking consolidate top spot on the ladder. Joe Burns has been in good form and could be an option to open the batting for the Heat.

D’Arcy short and Ben McDermott will be anchoring the innings for the Hurricanes. Short currently is the leading run-scorer in the BBL. Jofra Archer will lead the bowling attack, for the Hurricanes. The West Indies speedster has been clocked at 145km/hr this season. Archer’s battle with Heat captain Brendan McCullum will decide who comes out on top in this clash.

George Bailey and his men will be looking to continue their good form and steal a win against the Heat.
