We are more than a third of the way through the A-League regular season and there is plenty more exciting domestic football action to be had in Week 10.
All five matches offer plenty of value from a betting perspective, but the matchday undoubtedly peaks on Saturday evening when the Wanderers and Sydney FC meet in the seventeenth Sydney Derby.
We’re offering a host of lucrative odds across a wide variety of markets in all five matches in Week 10 of the A-League!
Melbourne Victory vs Adelaide United
It’s fifth versus sixth when the Melbourne Victory host Adelaide on Friday evening. Neither club has been outstanding through the first nine weeks of competition, but this is a good opportunity for both to start really putting the pressure on the top four in the lead-up to Christmas.
The Victory managed to put an extremely forgettable game behind them when they snuck home to beat the Wellington Phoenix last weekend. Having trailed 2-0 at half-time, the Victory hit the back of the net twice in the opening 15 minutes of the second stanza, before James Troisi completed the comeback in the 86th minute.
Adelaide United produced a gutsy performance against the league-leading Sydney FC last weekend and while they eventually went down 1-0, they can still take plenty of positives from the run.
Melbourne Victory are generally a tough prospect at home, but I am confident that Adelaide can take a point from this game.
Tip: Back the Draw @ $3.50
Brisbane Roar vs Wellington Phoenix
Saturday afternoon’s fixture between the Brisbane Roar and Wellington Phoenix probably won’t be the game of the round, but the relative positions of these two clubs on the ladder suggests that it will be a great contest.
The Roar’s slow start to the season has been somewhat stemmed in recent weeks and they will enter this match off the back of a confidence-boosting win over the Western Sydney Wanderers away from home.
The Phoenix have been extremely disappointing once more this season. They are a club with plenty of talent on paper, but they simply cannot convert. That was on show in full force last weekend when they blew a 2-0 lead over the Victory at half time to lose 3-2.
Brisbane are anything but trustworthy from a betting perspective, but there’s plenty of value in this match for favourite-backers.
Tip: No Bet
Western Sydney Wanders vs Sydney FC
The seventeenth edition of the Sydney Derby is the showpiece fixture on Matchday 10 of the A-League.
Regardless of form, ladder position and all other stats, this is always an exciting and well-contested fixture and fans were treated to a particularly good match when the teams last met in late October; eventually playing out a 2-2 draw.
Sydney FC have dominated the early stages of the season once again and even when they haven’t been at their best, they’ve found a way to win. A week 8 dismantlement of the Brisbane Roar was franked with a 1-0 win over a spirited Adelaide side and they deserve favouritism in this game.
The Wanderers were comfortably beaten by the Roar last weekend and they really have not been great all season – winning only one of their nine games to date.
Sydney FC really should be winning games like this, even against their arch-rivals and $2.05 is probably over the odds.
Tip: Back Sydney FC to win @ $2.05
Perth Glory vs Newcastle Jets
The Newcastle Jets will look to continue their outstanding run of form when they travel to Perth on Saturday night.
Not a lot was expected of this young Jets squad prior to season’s launch, but five classy wins have seen them consolidate second in overall standings; albeit five points off the pace of Sydney FC.
The Jets were unable to maintain their early lead over Melbourne City last week and slumped to a disappointing 2-1 loss, but they continued to create chances and are a team that can certainly bounce back this weekend.
The Glory have been reasonably inconsistent, but they remain one of the league’s toughest away trips and are always a chance in front of their home supporters.
It’s tough to see the Jets winning a match like this, even in current form, while the Glory also aren’t ‘sure things’ in this fixture. The draw looms as a likely outcome in this match.
Tip: Back the Draw @ $3.40
Melbourne City vs Central Coast Mariners
The final fixture on Matchday 10 of the A-League will peg Melbourne City and the Central Coast Mariners against each other on Sunday afternoon.
City returned to winning form via a credible performance against the Newcastle Jets last weekend and remain third overall; a draw away from joining Newcastle in second.
Standing in their way are a capable Central Coast Mariners outfit who have continued to improve this season; three wins, three losses and three draws enough to see them into fourth position and on track for a return to finals football.
It was happy hunting again for the Mariners last weekend, when a 78th minute strike from Blake Powell was enough to see the minnow club take all three points from their match with the Perth Glory.
Central Coast supporters are offered plenty of value for their team at current $4.30 odds, but surely City will do enough to take out a low-scoring meeting here.
Tip: Back Melbourne City to win @ $1.75
