The 2024 Wyong Gold Cup winner was the John O’Shea & Tom Charlton-trained seven-year-old Contributer gelding Lion’s Roar ($3.30), winner of the 2021 Randwick Guineas, who was given a perfectly timed ride to hit the lead 150m out from the line with Jason Collett aboard on 59kg to defeat Luncies by 0.57 lengths from barrier two in a time of 2 minutes 8.46 seconds.
