Which Horse Will Win The South Australian Derby

The best way to pick who will win the South Australian Derby is to take into account the form, assess the barriers, consider the weight the horse will carry, among other factors.

Additional factors to take into considerations are as follows:

  • Male Runners – It’s rare for a filly to win this race against the gelding and colts with only three to do so since 1999
  • Best Lead Up – The Chairman’s Stakes is a great lead up, with the double being taken out several times in recent history.
  • Favourites – The past ten years has seen favourites perform reliably in this race.

South Australian Derby Favourites

The South Australian Derby favourite will be updated when the South Australian Derby field is released.

Favourites in 2020 SA Derby betting include last start Chairman’s winner Dalasan out to do the double for the second time in three years, the VRC Derby champ from the spring Warning and the untapped Danny O’Brien-trained Russian Camelot.

Russian Camelot ($2.90) started favourite in SA Derby betting and saluted for the punters.

South Australian Derby 2020 Tips

Favourite: #1 Dalasan ($2.90) won the Chairman’s last start against a similar field, chases a third win on the trot at the track and is the one to beat again.

Best Bet: # 3 Themoonlitegambler ($16) is on the improve and looks a nice place for another top three finish, drawn the rails and coming off back-to-back placings behind Dalasan in the traditional lead-ups to the Derby.

Best Roughie: #6 Saint Eustace ($19) was well-beaten in the Port Adelaide Guineas but was outstanding at Flemington when runner-up next start in the St Leger (2800m) over more metres.
