Pago Pago Stakes

Pago Pago Stakes, Rosehill Gardens

Run over 1,200 metres every March, the Pago Pago Stakes is a Group 3 race, held during the Autumn racing season. With a $175,000 prize purse, it attracts some of Australia’s best short to mid distance colts and geldings.

If a horse is lucky enough to win this race, they receive automatic entry into the Golden Slipper Stakes, taking place a week later.

Looking for a lead in race? you can’t go past the 1200 metre Todman Stakes, which takes place a week earlier.

For its first year, the race had been held as a Principal Race, followed  by just one year of being a listed race. Since 1980, it has shifted between Group 3 and Group 2.

Which Horse Will Win The Pago Pago Stakes

The best way to pick who will win the Pago Pago Stakes is to take into account the form, assess the barriers, consider the weight the horse will carry, among other factors.

Additional factors to take into consideration are as follows:

  • 1000 And Up – Recent wins at distances of 1,000 metres to 1,500 metres, are a good sign that the young ones can handle the conditions.
  • Skyline Lead In – If the Todman Stakes doesn’t produce a winner you’re keen to back, try looking at the Skyline Stakes.
  • Put Some On Black – Don’t dismiss recent black-type races, as they’re the perfect sort of lead up to a Group 3 race like this one.
