Lee Steere Stakes

Lee Steere Stakes, Ascot Racecourse

Looking for early info on this year’s Lee Steere Stakes? The experts at Neds have put together everything you need to know before the race.

The Group 2 Lee Steere Stakes is an early feature race lead-up of the annual Perth Summer Racing Carnival taking place in early November on the same day Melbourne hosts Mackinnon Stakes Day at Flemington.

A weight-for-age event contested over 1400m, the Lee Steere Stakes offers $250,000 in prize money and serves as a key lead-up into the Group 1 Railway Stakes (1600m).

Luckygray won the 2011 and 2013 Railway Stakes and the Lee Steer in 2012, but no horse has won both races in the same year since Belle Bizarre (2006).

Run and won since 1898 having been inaugurated as The All Aged Stakes the time-honoured event has held Group 2 status since 1979 and plenty of top Perth racehorses have won the Lee Steere including in recent years Luckygray (2012) and Black Heart Bart (2015).

Which Horse Will Win The Lee Steere Stakes in 2021

The best way to pick which horse will win the Lee Steere Stakes in 2021 is to take into account their lead-up form in Perth, look for past performers in the race from previous years and look at their strike-rate over the 1400m – 1600m distance range.

Additional factors to consider when picking the Lee Steere Stakes winner include:

  • Last Year’s Results – This is a race that a lot of WA based horses will run successive years in a row. It’s not uncommon for last year’s winner to be the next year’s place getter, or vice versa.
  • Local Advantage – Winners have a tendency to demonstrate experience at Ascot Racecourse.
