Run over 1,400 metres during February or March each year, the Hobartville Stakes is a Group 2 race, held during the early stages of the Sydney Autumn Racing Carnival. With a four hundred dollar prize purse, it attracts some of the best three year olds, nationwide.
This race serves a nice little lead in to the 1600 metre Randwick Guineas, which takes place a fortnight later at the Group 1 level.
For almost forty years, it has been held at the Group 2 level. For the first fifty three years of its existence, it was a Principal race.

Which Horse Will Win The Hobartville Stakes
The best way to pick who will win the Hobartville Stakes is to take into account the form, assess the barriers, consider the weight the horse will carry, among other factors.
Additional factors to take into considerations are as follows:
- Best For Age – This race features nothing less than the best three year olds. If your horse can’t compete with other three year olds at the nationwide Group level, it might be worth reconsidering.
- Autumn Double – A win in the Eskimo Stakes, taking place a fortnight earlier at Rosehill, is a good predictor of success in this race.
- Mile Minimum – If they’re three years old, and have run well at a mile or above, then they’re ready for this race.
