Gai Waterhouse & Adrian Bott’s classy mare, Alalcance ($2.70F), celebrated a hat-trick with an emphatic victory for the punters in the 2025 Chairman’s Quality results. Overcoming a slow start, jockey Tim Clark rated the bonny grey to perfection riding the last start NE Manion Cup champ positively with the mare responding to sustain a high cruising speed and eventually win by over two lengths. A quick back-up into the 2025 Sydney Cup over the two miles on April 12 now looks likely.

The Chairman’s Quality is one of the key support races on Doncaster Mile Day, which is officially Day 1 of Sydney’s ‘The Championships’ held at Royal Randwick each April during the autumn carnival.
A Group 2 event for stayers, the race takes place over 2600m and serves as a potential final lead-up into the following weekend’s Group 1 Sydney Cup (3200m) over the two miles. The Offer (2014) and Circle Of Fire (2024) are the latest gallopers to complete the Chairman’s Quality – Sydney Cup double on the quick back-up.
In 2022 Chairman’s Quality runner-up Knights Order improved to win the Sydney Cup next start as well as run third that October in the spring’s Group 1 Caulfield Cup (2400m) in Victoria.
Contested as a quality handicap event, the Chairman’s Quality has been run and won since 1979 and offers $300,000 in prize money.

Chairman’s Quality Race Day 2025
The 2025 Chairman’s Quality takes place on Day 1 of ‘The Championships’ at Sydney’s Royal Randwick Racecourse on Saturday the 5th of April 2025. There are four Group 1 races in total held that day at the track with the running of the:
- Group 1 $4 million Doncaster Mile (1600m),
- Group 1 $3 million T.J. Smith Stakes (1200m),
- Group 1 $2 million Australian Derby (2400m), and the
- Group 1 $1 million Inglis’ Sires (1400m).
