Looking for info on the now defunct Bondi Stakes that ran from 2019-21? The expert tipsters at Neds have put together everything you need to know on the race that has now been replaced by the Group 2 $1 million Callander-Presnell (1600m) – formerly the Stan Fox Stakes.

The Bondi Stakes was a Sydney Spring Racing Carnival special conditions event that ran for the first time in 2019 and was held for only three years before being replaced by the new-look Stan Fox Stakes / Callander-Presnell. The $1 million feature inaugurated was 2019 as part of the wider The Everest Carnival that now offers in excess of $50 million in overall prize money.

A set weights race for three-year-olds, the $1 million Bondi Stakes took place over a mile (1600m) and made the perfect end-of-spring target in Sydney for graduates out of the Group 1 Golden Rose Stakes (1400m) held at Rosehill in late September.

Run and won and Randwick Racecourse, Bondi Stakes Day was held in late October on then same date Melbourne hosts the coveted $5 million W.S. Cox Plate at Moonee Valley.

From 2021, Bondi Stakes Day also featured the $2 million The Invitation for fillies and mares.

The winner of the Group 2 Stan Fox Stakes (1500m) held a fortnight earlier – now run as a replacement for the defunct Bondi Stakes as the Callander-Presnell – was exempt from Bondi Stakes ballot and Peltzer (2020) and Hilal (2021) both did the double.
